Troon Welbeck's Michael Stewart finishes fifth in Turkey

Troon Welbeck’s Michael Stewart won the biggest prize of his fledgling tour pro golf career when he finished joint fifth in the PGA of Europe’s Beko Classic in Turkey.

Stewart, 22, shot a five under 68, 71 and 72 to finish five shots behind winner Welshman Simon Edwards and earn £3,375.

• The Scottish Ladies Golfing Association have included three Ayrshire players in their training squads for 2012-13.

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) is named in the ladies national training squad for 2012-13 while clubmates Hazel McGarvie and Emma Hale are both included in the Foundation 2 squad.

Kilmarnock Barassie’s Jack McDonald is in the men’s performance squad while clubmate Euan Walker has been included in the boys’ development squad.

• Ayrshire’s bid to snatch the West of Scotland inter county title from champions Renfrewshire ended with 5.5-4.5 defeat at Prestwick GC.
