Prestwick Ambassador gents are winners at Ardrossan

Prestwick Ambassador gents team pulled off a brilliant 83-69 away win at Ardrossan on Saturday when they returned three winning score cards from the four games.

Craig Cobbledick beat Martin Williamson 28-11, Paul Boyd beat Darren O’Rourke 22-8 and Davie Gourlay beat Robert McCulloch 23-17 to cancel out a 33-10 defeat for Craig Lindsay against Ronnie McConnachie.

The ladies suffered a home defeat against Ardrossan when they went down by 22 shots. Val O’Neill won her game 28-9, but it was defeat for Wilma Ogilvie (22-16) Kathie Mitchell (36-14) and Rita Miller (20-7).

Prestwick’s under 35 team took a massive step towards the next round of the Scottish Cup when they beat a strong Blantyre outfit 8-2 at home, winning on three of the four rinks for an overall score of 92-71. Scores: Gary Martin 23, Brian Irvine 18; Jordan Slaven 24, Mark O’Hagen 16; Craig Cobbledick 25, Caroline Brown 12; Stuart Wyllie 20, Mark Radigan 25. Prestwick now face Blantyre away in the return leg on December 2.

Prestwick senior gents had a successful weekend in the national championships when they qualified for the semi finals of the pairs and triples. Willie Kennedy just failed in the singles against Galleon (21-13) to give the club a treble of qualifiers. Jim Fortune and Michael Higgins knocked out Paisley (16-12) before seeing off Ardrossan 18-13 to claim their place in the semi-finals later in the year, In the triples, Neil McMillan, Hector Berretti and Alan Paxton added to the pairs success when they beat Ardrossan 14-13 before seeing off Newton Stewart 20-13 .
