Brian Whittle does the honours at Ayr Seaforth Athletic Club prizegiving

Olympic athlete and club member Brian Whittle presented prizes at Ayr Seaforth’s awards at the Horizon Hotel.

The club champions and runners-up in cross country, track, field and road racing were honoured as well as several special club trophy presentations and honours for athletes who were top three placed in an event at Scottish or UK level.

Male club athlete of the year was Sam Revie with the runner-up Scott McAnally. Female winner was Aileen Rennie with runner-up Kirstin Oakley.

Sixteen athletes were honoured for their achievements at national level with several having attained a medal in more than one event and masters athletes Bobby Stevenson and Gwen McFarlane attaining five medal positions each with Bobby managing five golds.

Simon Campbell Memorial Trophy (best achievement U17 men): Scott McAnally; Hazel McNee Trophy (best achievement U17 women): Carolyn Harvey. Ernest Thursby Trophy (excellence in field): Rachel Hunter; Sean Carson Memorial Shield (excellence in throwing): Andrew Peck. Paul McPate Shields (best newcomers): Natalie McDonald, male joint winners Ben Lomako and Allan McQueen; Andy Smith Cup (special contribution to Seaforth): Lauren Dickson for coaching.

The shield for the female athlete of year was donated in 1991 by the late Glen Harrower and his wife Maureen but is being retired and replaced by The Glen Harrower Memorial Shield in honour of the club’s greatest servant who died in August.
