Landmark turns green for St Patrick

The Clyde Auditorium will be turned green along with other UK landmarks as part of St Patrick's celebrations.

The Glasgow building, also known as the "Armadillo", joins around 40 international structures lighting up to mark the day.

Niagara Falls, the London Eye, Copenhagen's Little Mermaid and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, will all take part.

It is part of a global initiative to promote tourism in Ireland.

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: "Our greening initiative is back and bigger than ever for this St. Patrick's Day.

"We're inviting people from all over the world to join in our unique celebrations, putting smiles on even more faces across the globe as we showcase the wonderful experiences on offer from a visit to Ireland."

The tourism body is also inviting the public to join in through a Facebook competition in which people take part in their own greening.

Last year, a flock of sheep in Bathgate, West Lothian, took on an emerald hue to celebrate the popular day.
