An 18-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after two cars collided.
The crash involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a black Audi Quattro happened on the northbound carriageway of the A90 at the Bogindollo junction between Forfar and Brechin at 7.30pm on Monday.
The 18-year-old driver was trapped in his vehicle and freed by firefighters and paramedics. He was then taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where his condition is described as serious.
The A90 northbound remains closed with diversions in place via Montrose while a crash investigation is carried out by police.
A police spokesman said: "Tayside Police are appealing for information regarding a two vehicle road traffic collision which occurred about 7.30pm ... at the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen Road near to Forfar at the Bogindollo junction. The collision involved a Blue Vauxhall Corsa and a Black Audi Quattro.
"An 18-year-old male has been taken to Ninewells Hospital, his condition is described as serious.
"Police are carrying out a crash investigation and are appealing for witnesses."
A spokesman for the fire service said: "The driver of one car was released by firefighters and paramedics and taken to Ninewells. Another casualty had minor cuts to his hands."
The road had recently been gritted and driving conditions described as good, police do not believe weather was a contributing factor to this incident.
