A taxi driver has had a "lucky escape" after a traffic cone was thrown from a bridge, smashing his front window.
The cone was hurled from North Bridge in the centre of Edinburgh in the early hours of New Year's Day, Lothian and Borders Police said.
Constable Seona Fleming said: "This is a very serious incident as the driver of the private hire vehicle had a very lucky escape."
The area would have had people out celebrating the new year when the cone was thrown at about 4.55am.
The taxi was in Market Street below the bridge.
