A man has been arrested in connection with the death of his mother and the attempted murder of his father.
Ann Morris, 63, collapsed following a disturbance at her home in Polo Gardens, Troon, Ayrshire, at about 7.45pm on Friday.
She died a short time after being admitted to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse hospital.
Strathclyde Police said her husband, Fred, 64, sustained serious facial and chest injuries during the incident.
He too was taken to Crosshouse hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
On Saturday, police said officers were travelling to London to talk to 38-year-old man Graime Morris, who was being held in custody in London in connection with the incident.
He was brought back to Scotland and arrested on Sunday night. A report is being sent to the procurator fiscal and he is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court.
A post-mortem examination is expected to take place to establish the exact cause of Mrs Morris' death.
