Dumfries woman attacked on way home

A woman was sexually assaulted as she walked home from a night out.

The victim was on a night out in Dumfries Town Centre and made her way home on foot in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She was attacked on the A711 Dalbeattie Road out the outskirts of town.

Police believe that the woman tried to flag down a lorry that was travelling on the road around the time of the assault.

Officers leading the investigation have called on the driver of the vehicle to come forward, as he may hold vital information regarding the incident.
