Four children and a woman have been taken to hospital after a fire in a flat.
Three boys, aged six, four and three, a 10-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for precautionary checks, a spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said.
Firefighters were called to the incident in Parkhead Drive, Edinburgh, around 5.30pm on Thursday. The spokeswoman said the fire started in a bedroom and the building was filled with smoke.
A woman and her 15-month-old baby were rescued from the flat above the fire by officers on an extended ladder. An elderly woman who lived in the block was also led to safety. They did not need medical treatment.
The blaze has been extinguished but two fire crews remain at the scene to make the block safe before an investigation into the cause of the fire can begin.
