GP consultation rates went "through the roof" last winter as the health service battled with the impact of the swine flu outbreak, according to official figures.
There were 105 consultations for every 100,000 registered patients, higher than in previous years.
The main rise occurred in November, which was also much earlier than in previous years as the peak generally happens in January.
