Statement demanded over Purcell

Labour's political opponents have demanded a full disclosure of the circumstances surrounding Steven Purcell's departure from Scotland`s biggest local authority.

Mr Purcell stunned colleagues by unexpectedly quitting as leader of Glasgow City Council on health grounds last week.

His representatives said he was suffering from "stress and exhaustion" and it later emerged he had been treated at a private hospital specialising in drug and alcohol dependency. He also quit as a councillor days later.
