Council leaders agree to pay freeze

Council chiefs have agreed to a pay freeze in light of "unprecedented challenges" facing the public sector.

All 32 chief executives in Scotland will waive their salary increase in 2010-11, which would have given them an extra 2.5% from April.

Councillor Michael Cook, of local authority group Cosla, said: "The testing times both now and which lie ahead are such that leadership counts and chief executives have shown genuine leadership which we trust will set an example to others.
