Warning over education spending

Extra spending to cut class sizes for younger pupils cannot be justified as budgets are squeezed, education chiefs are due to warn.

The Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) will tell MSPs that "greater flexibility" is needed over an SNP pledge to have classes of 18 or fewer in primaries one to three.

Holyrood's Education Committee will consider the issue and will also hear from council chiefs.
