The education system is facing its tightest spending squeeze in 30 years, MSPs have been warned.
Teaching leaders also called for more flexibility in the way a Government drive towards smaller class sizes for younger pupils is introduced.
John Stodter, general secretary of the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES), told Holyrood`s Education Committee today that "almost every area" of school budgets is being hit by the current constraints in public spending.
