Baby lowered to safety after fire

A six-month-old baby was lowered from a second floor flat in a child's car seat after a fire started two floors below, firefighters said.

Firefighters were called at 2.53pm to Hailesland Gardens in Edinburgh after the fire started in a kitchen on the ground floor of the block of flats.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was a ground floor kitchen fire and the flames were clearly visible when the crew arrived.
