THE PRESTWICK Academy under 13s football team were defeated in the final of the South Ayrshire Cup on penalties to Belmont Academy. Belmont dominated the first 20 mins and were justly rewarded with a great goal which hit the top corner from just outside the box. Prestwick then started to play some attractive, flowing football.
The Belmont defence struggled to cope with Aiden Connor’s dribbling skills, his directness and agility proving too much for the defence. Prestwick hit Belmont on the counter attack when a great pass from Liam Anderson released Alan Forrest through on goal from the half way line. Alan showed great control and strength to hold off the chasing defender and then demonstrated his composure as he coolly slotted the ball home. Sean Ewart then hit the bar direct from an in-swinging corner. 1 - 1 and then just before half time, Belmont scored a high and floated free kick from just inside the half way line. Prestwick dominate the second half having 3 clear cut chances, but couldn't find the net until Alan rounded the keeper and was brought down. The keeper was sent off and then Alan coolly stroked the ball into the side netting to make it 2 - 2. Prestwick dominated the last 10 mins, but again couldn't find the back of the net.
The game went straight to penalties. Man of the Match goes to Alan Forrest, closely followed by Aiden Connor and Callum McLean.
The team play Kyle Academy in the last league game of the season with a win securing the league for Prestwick Academy.
Well done to the under 13's Coca Cola football team who won their semi final group phase at Airdrie United football stadium.
The boys played some excellent football and won all of their games.
Cameron Taylor, Neil McPherson, Sean Ewart, Alan Forrest, Liam Anderson, Aiden Connor, Stephen McKay, Stephen Poulter and Grant McGeechan will now represent Prestwick Academy at the final which will be held at Tynecastle on Friday, May 29. Good Luck to the team and thanks to Mr Patterson (PE department) for managing the U13 football team this session.
