Queen Margaret Academy: 11 March 2009

A GROUP of third and fourth year boys who have made positive strides in turning around their behaviour experienced the fruits of their labours when they played football at Pro Soccer last week.

The trip was a great success with the young men playing a number of very competitive games.

THE WORLD of Work Conference for second year pupils took place on Tuesday, March 3. The purpose of the conference was to give pupils the opportunity to talk to people from as many different forms of employment as possible.

PLANS for the race night/disco are well under way. Tickets are on sale in the school at a cost of £2.50.

ON Saturday, February 28, five of the staff showed their commitment to QMA by attending a leadership course in the Savoy Hotel. This is to support the pupils as they strive to achieve bronze, silver and gold awards in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.

SEASONS for Growth are meeting on Friday afternoons. This group provides emotional support to those young people who are suffering the emotional fallout caused by the death of loved ones, by divorce or separation.

ON Wednesday, March 18, pupils studying biology will travel to Paisley University for a revision day.

ON Saturday, March 21, thirty of the most able young scientists in second year will visit Auchincruive on a field trip.

MISS Brewer of the mathematics department has informed the head teacher that a bin for recycling paper and plastic has now been delivered to the school.

LAST week, pupils and staff in QMA home economics department received a visit from a representative of the Scottish Qualifications Authority, who came along to verify the standard of assessment and the quality of attainment in S4 home economics.

KIERAN Mackin in first year is being sponsored by staff and pupils to take part in a 10k fun run which will take place at Culzean Castle in late March.

MICHAEL Lafferty of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline accepted a cheque and gifts from third year pupils. A group of children will arrive in Scotland in a few weeks.
