Doon Academy: 11 March 2009

THE S4 Activate group enjoyed a team-building trip to the Xscape in Glasgow. The students worked together on a number of challenging and motivating tasks; they also had the opportunity to take part in the Lazerquest.

THE BBC School News reporters were delighted that famous author Cathy Cassidy visited the school to be interviewed. Ms Cassidy spoke to the reporters about her books and how she creates her characters and storylines. She also signed books and autographs for the pupils. The reporters would like to thank Ms Cassidy for her time and commitment to the school.

S2, S4 and S5 pupils are currently in the process of choosing their options for next year. The pupils should consider all the courses available before making their final option selection. It is hoped this process will be finalised in the coming week.

THE 2 girls Citizenship group has began their six-week programme. The group will be studying health and well-being and its relationship to motivation. Enjoy your project, girls!

DOON Academy senior and junior netball teams played against Cumnock Academy.

The seniors played first and looked like strong contenders in the first few minutes. Some excellent movement from Kelsey Dunn and Ashley Thomson saw the senior team draw 2-2, but unfortunately the victory was not theirs as the Cumnock girls then went on to storm ahead.

There was some fantastic defending from Chloe Wallace in the second half of the game, but this still couldn't stop the visitors from clinching the game and finally winning 25-3. Well done to all girls who took part in the game.

Straight after the seniors played, it was time for our S1 team to take centre stage again and all seemed a little apprehensive after the defeat of the seniors. The girls had a glorious start winning the first third 3-2.

After a few changes during the second third, the score was equal. The central defence of Claire Boyd and Lauren Shaw did a fantastic job of keeping the Cumnock girls out the circle and Sophie Dobbie scored a spectacular net in the last 4 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, Cumnock managed to get another two nets in the final two minutes of the game, which gave them an overall victory of 5-4.

All girls played extremely well and had possession of the ball throughout the most part. Well done to Jade Scott who won Player of the Match. The girls were very unlucky to have lost but there was definite improvement in performance – keep up the good work!

THE ART Department is arranging a trip to the Kelvingrove Gallery for students in S1-S3 who are studying Art and Design. Also the Art Club meets on Thursday after school – all are welcome.
