Prestwick Academy: 14 january 2009

PRESTWICK Academy would like to wish all pupils, staff, parents, carers and all associated with the school best wishes for the new year.

THE PUPILS and teachers of Prestwick Academy were collecting treats, toiletries, books and much more throughout November and December to fill boxes which have been sent to British soldiers serving all over the world. The project was co-ordinated by sixth year pupil Laura Michel, with support and guidance from Mrs Blackwood and Mr Docherty. The school managed to fill 75 shoe boxes with Christmas goodies. Special thanks to Beth Yorke, Jonathan Scott, Annabel Robb, Corinne McClymont and Lisa Miller who helped with packing and wrapping.

THE PUPILS of Prestwick Academy donated items at their Christmas parties to fill hampers for the local residents of Alexandra Court Sheltered Housing. Staff also contributed greatly to the appeal and on Friday, December 19, pupils from the S4 lifeskills class set about making parcels and delivering them to the grateful residents, accompanied by depute head teachers Ms Lauder and Mr Docherty. The pupils are pictured creating the parcels and meeting with the ladies at a special coffee afternoon organised by housing manager Maureen Wilson.

WELL done to S6 student Nicole Blain who came third in the final of the Work Shadowing Challenge. Working with Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the local Ayrshire branch of the Chartered Management Institute hosted the finals of the 8th annual Ayrshire Work Shadowing challenge at Oswald Hall Conference Centre, Auchencruive, on Monday, December 1. Nicole shadowed Jason Dalrymple, a project manager at NATS in Prestwick.

ALL pupils who asked for a German penpal will receive details by the end of January. Anyone interested in having an American penpal, see Mr Alexander in Mod Langs 4 as soon as possible.
