Ayr Academy: 6 November 2008

ON Saturday, October 4 campus police officer PC Brown and Ms Donoghue (acting PT guidance) accompanied a group of pupils to the Blackburn v Manchester United football match at the Blackburn football stadium.

Eighty pupils from Ayr, Kyle and Belmont Academies and Marr College travelled down by bus.

Pupils also received some training from pro-youth coaches before the match. There will be another trip running on Saturday, December 6 to see the Blackburn v Liverpool game. PC Brown will issue more details in due course.

THE SENIOR Charity group organised their first disco of the session on Thursday, October 30.

This was a Halloween disco which was well attended with all pupils making a great effort with their costumes and outfits.

Best dressed boy was Rhuardhi Anderson of S6 as The Joker from Batman and best dressed girl was Jaden Gale of S1 who was dressed as a surgeon. Both pupils received prizes and a great night was had by all.

Well done to the senior charity for such a well organised and successful event which raised £250.

MR Quinn's S3 XL group hosted their annual Halloween party for 30 Annbank primary 3 pupils on Friday, October 31 in the school's Memorial Hall from 9.30am to noon. Pupils were treated to scary games and Halloween party bags and all had a great time.

CONGRATULATIONS and good luck to Amy Brown of S5 who has been selected for the Junior Under 25's International Ladies Team trial on Sunday, November 9 at Falkirk indoor bowling club. Amy also gave a super performance at the recent SYIBA youth trials in Perth and is still awaiting a selection announcement.

STAFF and pupils showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by participating in Wear It Pink Day on Friday, October 31 and raising £150 for this cause.

S4 pupils are currently out on work experience placements in the local community.

The Tree of Knowledge are back in school towards the end of November to work with S4 students to help develop their study skills in preparation for S4 prelims at the beginning of December.

Parents are reminded that there is a Parent Council event on Tuesday, November 11, the focus of which will be supporting pupils with their study skills at home.

Lunchtime and after school supported study sessions are currently on offer for S4/5/6 in many subjects and pupils are strongly encouraged to attend these.

THE PARENT Council fund-raising sub committee met on Monday, October 27 to discuss final preparations for Ayr Academy's annual Christmas fayre which will be held in the school on Saturday, December 6. Pupils will be taking letters home shortly asking for donations of grocery items for hamper raffles and bottles for the bottle stall.

STAFF are currently completing S1 interim profiles which should be with parents shortly.
