Time to say farewell to the old Prestwick Academy

PRESTWICK Academy extend a warm welcome to former pupils and the local community to take a tour of the old buildings of the academy before the big move to the new school.

This will take place on Thursday, October 2, from 7pm to 8.30pm. Come along for a night of nostalgia, see old photo's and meet old friends. Please bring along any photo's you may have.

ON Monday, September 29, approximately 60 S4 pupils embarked on a week of work experience with local employers. This is the first of two weeks assigned to Prestwick Academy, with the second week commencing on February 2 2009.

The range of placements include local shops, mechanics, plumbers, vets, hospitals and beauticians to name but a few. All pupils will complete a daily diary which should be returned to Mrs Marr, work experience co-ordinator. Good luck to all pupils who are attending a placement.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jennifer Miller (S4) AND Craig Miller (S6) who have qualified to compete in an international speed skating competition in Bolzano, Italy. Craig also plans to skate in France and Germany later on this year. We wish them both all the best in their competitions.

THE AYRSHIRE Schools swimming championships will be held on Saturday, October 25. Any swimmers wishing to be considered for entry into the Prestwick Academy team should contact Mr Hubbard.

ANY pupils who ordered a Standard Grade PE kit should report to the PE department as soon as possible.

A MEETING was held this week for all pupils who have been given a place on the S1 ski trip to Aviemore, planned for February 2009.

A UNIFORM check was carried out last week by all registration teachers. This was very successful, showing a marked improvement on the wearing of Prestwick Academy school uniform.

THE Prestwick Academy Pupil Council met last week with over 60 members representing each register class in the school.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Docherty, Acting DHT and Mr Bone, head teacher, addressed the pupils with regards to the school improvement plan and the Vision and Aims for Prestwick Academy. Some of the work the council will undertake this session will include an audit of the current school uniform and pupil input to school policy documents.

Twelve lucky members of the council picked out a golden ticket and were able to visit the new school on Friday, September 26.

THANK you to all members of staff who participated in the highly successful car wash organised by the Young Enterprise group. A total of £100 was raised.

AUDITIONS for the annual Prestwick Academy talent show take place this week. The best of the best will be chosen to face the judges and compete for the coveted title.
