Kyle Academy: 27 August 2008

CONGRATULATIONS to the senior pupils who worked hard to achieve their potential in the recent diet of SQA examinations.

There were some outstanding achievements this session for individuals and groups of pupils.

THANK you to our parents for your very strong support in raising standards of school dress again this session.

Thank you also to our young people for their support. We have been very impressed by the standard of dress.

PARENT Council members are reminded that they should inform the school if they no longer wish to stand, or if their children have left school, so that places can be allocated to other parents.

THE KYLE Association Committee met on Tuesday to plan the AGM. It will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, September 2 in the staff room.

THE TEAM of staff and pupils who will be visiting Peru this summer are organising a major fund raising event for pupils, parents, staff and friends of the school, under the enthusiastic leadership of Miss Baillie, and a large team of staff and pupils.

The challenge to raise £20,000 has been shared by pupils from several courses and departments which include Business Education, Art, Design and Technology, as well as pupils from the ASDAN group and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

The team will host a school fete on Saturday, September 13, from noon to 3pm, to raise funds. So far we have been very impressed with their proposals. The event will include a car boot sale, a special agility competition for family dogs, a bouncy castle, a barbecue, afternoon tea, live music and dancing, an auction led by Mr Phillips, a tug of war, a wellie throw, basket ball shoot out, cross bar challenge, car washing, beat the goalie, 'keepie uppie', golf chipping, a rowing competition and pie the teacher. Stalls will include tombola, nearly new, book stall, positive thought for the day, malteser masher, feely touchy boxes, plants, planters and pots, and a CD and DVD stall.

Donations of items for the stalls would be most welcome and should be handed in to the Pupil Support Department. Alternatively we can collect items if you have problems with transport.

SENIOR pupils attended the Careers Convention at Kilmarnock College on Wednesday, August 27. Sixth year pupils will also have the opportunity to attend open days at Strathclyde University (Tuesday, September 9) and Glasgow University (Wednesday, September 10).

A SPECIAL information evening for pupils applying to university this session, and their parents, will take place on Thursday, September 4.
