Prestwick Academy pupils help out at school garden

PRESTWICK ACADEMY

BEST wishes on their retirement to Grace Bell, Stewart MacLean and Moira Redmond who have served the community of Prestwick Academy for many years. Our sincerest thanks go to them together with our best wishes for a long and healthy retirement.

Congratulations to Shona Mitchell and Christine Laing on their appointment to permanent posts in the chemistry department and to Robert West on his appointment to the post of principal teacher of chemistry in Wellington School. Congratulations also to John Malakoty on his appointment to a permanent post within the technical department at Auchinleck Academy.

Thanks to probationer teachers Lesley McComb, Greg Stewart, Shona Mitchell, Alan McClatchie and Lisa Beckett for their hard work and contribution to the school over the last year and to congratulate them in achieving the standard for full registration.

AMAZING was the word used to describe the recent and very successful production of Copacabana. Mia Wilson and Stuart Edgar (S4) gave outstanding performances and were supported by a very talented cast and group of vocalists.

Special thanks to Neil Thomson, school brass instructor, who produced the show and to all who were involved. Thanks to our wonderful and extremely talented students - It was the best fiver spent this year!

WELL done to the following students on their successful appointments: captains: Rebecca Trayner 6C2, Calum Anderson 6A3; vice captains: Nicole Scott 6C1, Allan Devlin 6B1.

WITH parents’ support, the school would like to see all young people arriving for the start of the new session in full school uniform.

The school firmly believe school uniform is essential for young people to identify and share a sense of belonging within their own school. It also reduces the possibility of socio-economic differences being highlighted and in the modern world is increasingly essential for safety.

In such a large school, it is vital that we are able to identify quickly anyone who is not associated with the school.

PRESTWICK Academy's design and technology department were approached by Heathfield Primary Nursery to help liven up the dull and tired garden for their garden party on Monday, June 23.

The department picked two top pupils from every third year craft and design class. Pupils picked to help with the project were Jamie McQuaker, Eilidh Gibson, Fraser McIlloney, Laura Murdoch, Kieran Welsh, Yasmine Soojeri, Chelsea McCulloch and me.

The day of the children's garden party arrived, the sun came out, and everyone was invited. It was great to see that the children were enjoying the bench and all the colourful characters.

ON Thursday, June 26, over 50 new S2 pupils attended a school trip to Blackpool organised by the maths department. The trip had a focus on enterprising mathematics and was enjoyed by all pupils and staff involved.

THE ART and design, design and technology, home economics and English departments are almost complete and most staff have now had a chance to visit the new school. It will be the turn of the pupil council to see around the new build early on in the new session and then feed back their views to other pupils.

In August, the school will be meeting with the PPP team to discuss final preparations for the big move and this information will be made available to parents as soon as possible.

ANY new S5 or S6 student who wishes to make a change to their timetable should visit their year head in school on Thursday, August 7, from 9am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

PUPILS return to school on Monday, August 18.
