Queen Margaret Academy Prom

The occasion was a glittering affair with the young ladies in dazzling form in their designer ball gowns. The young gentlemen wore a variety of forms of evening dress including dinner suits, kilts and, in the case of the head boy Daniyal Chitti, a stunning white evening suit.

Staff brushed up quite well also and the dancing went on late into the night.

The dinner was very enjoyable, the speeches were amusing and the hotel staff were extremely attentive. The pupils and staff of Queen Margaret Academy wish to thank the management and staff of the Western House Hotel for making the evening go so smoothly and enjoyably.

We hope that the sixth year pupils who are moving on, no doubt, to successful futures will have wonderful lives ahead of them.

ON Friday, June 20, a group of pupils from Queen Margaret Academy returned to school weary but happy having spent some time in Paris and at Euro Disney.

Mrs Barr, Mr Patterson, Mrs Robertson, Mr McGeough and Mr Campbell reported the pupils were a credit to the school.

ON Sunday, June 22, twelve boys and twenty four girls accompanied by five members of staff set out on a trip to Holland.

FINAL efforts are being made, in the run down to summer to raise funds for Badagry. Sixth year pupils are busily washing cars for the staff a reasonable rate and soaking themselves in the process.

Yesterday's litter pick raised funds which will be added to the total and at the end of the week a staff pupils' football match will be held to raise money to support the building of our Nigerian clinic.

STAFF and pupils will be bidding farewell to a variety of staff members.

The probationer teachers who have contributed so much to the school, Mr McGilloway (mathematics) Miss Traynor) physical education) and Mr McGeough (geography) will be moving on to share their talents with other pupils in different schools.

JEAN Turner is leaving us to take up her new life as retired lady of leisure. Jean is one of those teachers who is the backbone of the education system. She never makes a fuss she but she is always there working away with and for her pupils and sharing her expertise and talents unstintingly. Everyone will miss her for her teaching skill and her optimistic personality.

SARAH Green, principal teacher of English and former acting depute head teacher is leaving us to take up her new position as head of faculty in a school in St John's in Dalry Dumfriesshire.

In the short time that Mrs Green has been with the school she has become a firm favourite with staff and pupils. Everyone wishes her well in her new job.

A big thank you to some of the support staff who will be leaving to move to pastures new.

ON the afternoon of Monday, June 2 a group of about sixty fourth year pupils donned gloves, overalls and litter picks and set off down to the playing fields to clear the litter which has collected on the boundary between the school and the houses adjacent.

A COMPETITION was organised and tickets for the cinema were donated by Ayr Odeon to reward the group of pupils who managed to collect the largest number of bags of litter.

The winning group - group 1 appropriately - managed to collect seventeen bags of litter in just over one hour.

Collectively the pupils cleared seventy two bags on litter in that short space of time and the boundary is looking a whole lot tidier and healthier. Everyone hopes the neighbours are pleased.

This has give a huge kick start to everyone’s ambitions to achieve the bronze award in ECO schools and hopefully the Green Flag Award in the not too distant future.

Mrs Gray wishes to thank Ayr Odeon for donating the tickets, John Morrison, the Waste Control Officer from South Ayrshire Council who supplied protective clothing and a skip in which to collect the rubbish, and the staff and pupils of the ECO Committee who organised the event.

The school re-opens to pupils on Monday, August 18.
