Marr College pupils are ‘bin it to win it’

MARR College pupils held a litter pick to help launch their ‘Bin it To Win It’ campaign.

A litter sweep of their school grounds in Troon was designed to encourage pupils to dispose of their rubbish correctly and not simply throw it on the ground.

The school, Strathclyde Police, and employees from South Ayrshire Council’s antisocial behaviour team and waste management department have been working together on the scheme.

If pupils are spotted binning their waste by campus police officers or waste management officers, their names will be taken and these are then entered into a grand prize draw.

However, those who continue to drop litter also have their names taken and a letter is sent to their parent or carer.

The initiative will run until the end of the school term and continue after the summer holidays.

Levels of litter will be monitored in and around the school and these will be analysed by the council’s waste management department.
