PREPARATIONS for Girvan Academy school show Grease are underway.
A small group of workers are busy in the theatre, creating the set.
Mrs Bruce, Mrs Diamond and Mrs Kennedy are also busy coming up with 1950s fashions and looks.
Tickets are now on sale in school, from Mrs Birnie, and at local shops, priced £6.
Everyone is determined to make the show a spectacular success, to make the ticket price incredible value for money.
COPIES of Girvan Academy Year Book 2008 have arrived in school for distribution.
It represents a wealth of information and images gathered by the year book committee under the guidance of Mr Standring. Pupils will be able to look back with fond memories at the completed session.
GIRVAN Academy has begun a new timetable, now up and running smoothly.
Seniors returned from study leave on Thursday, June 5, which was an induction day.
Then on Friday, June 6, they took part in a health day.
New S1 pupils visited the school on June 10, 11 and 12.
THE Art Department was once again very successful in a recent Burns competition. And they held a presentation for winners on Wednesday, June 4.
The competition, run by the Burns World Federation, was won by Claire Milroy S2, who received a cheque for £100 and a trophy.
The presentation was made by Mr J Smith, with musical items provided by Mr D Hunter. Certificate winners were: Stuart Stevenson, Catherine Clark, Fionn Corbett, Siobhan Ross, Paige Manson, Declan Taylor, Stuart Walker, Caitlin Gillespie, Lauren Voce, Curtis McCrindle, Lauren Perman, Steven Lynch, Scott Robertson and Noi McMillan. Many congratulations to all who were successful.
A visit by S1 pupils to the Ayrshire Special Games proved a great success.
Everyone had a great time, and pupils are sorry they will not have this opportunity to participate in the games again.
Pupils were very well behaved, and the only slight downside was that the boys were ‘not too keen on the dancing’.
NEW S3 and S4 ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) groups in both mainstream and ELF (extended learning facility) are making good progress with their coursework.
The S4 mainstream group are completing work for their Bronze Award which covers a variety of skills which allow them to live independently.
The S3 ELF group have also completed their Bronze Award which involved a community project — shoebox appeal; health and survival; nutrition; information handling; first aid and road safety. All the pupils involved have worked very hard to achieve the required standard.
