Pupils prepare to move up a year at Ayr Academy

FOLLOWING interviews on Friday, May 9, the following well deserved appointments have been made for the new session 2008/9.

School captains - Hugh McQueen and Lauren Copeland; vice captains - Kieran Bark, Mark Smith, Daryl Paterson and Kirsten Russell; Regents - Amber Kordakis, Monica McElwee, Calum McKay, Lucy Theaker and Laura Turner.

Congratulations to all pupils who will take up their duties when the new timetable begins on Monday, June 3.

THE art department's piece of the month is a breathtaking painting by talented first year pupil Rebecca Wilson of 1K1.

Rebecca's painting came from looking at various artists and examining their use of media, visual elements and composition before moving on to create her own interpretation of a work by the artist of her choice - in this case a painting by Monet titled Antibes.

Well done Rebecca on an excellent piece of work!

PUPILS of the Month for mathematics are: Successful Learner - Lauren Anderson 3G1; Confident Individual - Ross Anderson 1C1; Responsible Citizen - James Ferguson 1G1; Effective Contributor - Darren McKenzie 4C1.

Congratulations to all four pupils who will have their photograph taken and be the first to appear on the newly introduced maths department Wall of Fame!

A GROUP of S3 pupils visited The University of the West of Scotland recently to learn more about music and media courses on offer there. These courses included music performing degrees, commercial music including band and tour management/journalism and music technology courses where students can record professionally using the facilities on campus.

Pupils were entertained by a number of bands made up of students from the courses, and were given a tour of the campus which included practice rooms, recording studios, editing suites and the main lecture theatre.

The tour was led by students from the university and pupils had the opportunity to ask questions about the campus, courses and facilities available.

PUPILS and parents are reminded of the following significant dates: Friday, May 23, is a staff in-service day; Monday, May 26, is a school holiday and Wednesday, May 28, is the S1 parent's evening.
