Staff and pupils draw up new school rules at Belmont Academy

THE year councils met last week and are now engaged in working with teachers to draw up a set of rules which would operate in the new school.

This is part of an across-the-school initiative to promote positive behaviour as it is planned to introduce a points system to all year groups with the classes with the highest number of points receiving a reward at the end of each term.

STUDY leave for fifth and sixth years began this week.

MEMBERS of the guidance team and Mr Moir have worked through all the first year reports and they should be issued to pupils this week.

Along with the reports a parental questionnaire will be sent out.

Could parents of S1 pupils please complete and return to the school.

EVERYONE welcomed back to the academy, a large number of student teachers who will complete their final placements with the school.

Tutors are already organising observation visits and with the support of colleagues in the designated departments these professional observations will go very well.

CONGRATULATIONS to Caroline Connor and Linda McLean who have been appointed to the substantive post of joint principal teachers of modern languages.

They are wished every success as they take modern languages forward.

A SERIES of meetings have been held with all year groups where members of the SMT have spoken about the need for some of the young people to get reunited with blouses, shirts and ties and what it means to come appropriately dressed to school.

Now that the summer term and it is hoped the better weather is here, the school looks forward to the young people wearing the Belmont Academy identity.

CONGRATULATIONS to the academy's under 15 football squad who won by an impressive 3 - 0 against Queen Margaret Academy in the Ayr and District Cup.

Team manager Kevan Bryden is delighted at the success of the boys and a special commendation to goal keeper Oliver Vollam who kept Queen Margaret’s shots out of the net and so emerged man of the match.

TWO recent appointments took up their posts in the academy - Ann Douglas has joined the history department while Arlene MacLeod has joined the clerical team in the main office.

MEMBERS of the guidance team have been working on a construction of classes of the new first year joining the school in August.

These class lists will be given out to the school’s partner primary schools at the next cluster meeting and everyone will meet up at the integrated sports event scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at the Old Racecourse.
