Ruaridh takes gold in maths challenge at Kyle Academy

EIGHTEEN junior school pupils took part in the Scottish Mathematical Challenge this year and four of these pupils will be heading off to the awards ceremony at the University of the West of Scotland on Thursday, June 12.

Warm congratulations to Ruaridh McPike of fifth year who won a gold award, achieving 38 marks out of a possible 50. Emma Lydon of fourth year won bronze, and Sam Stopford of second year won silver as did Neil Smith of first year.

The award ceremony will provide another learning opportunity as pupils will hear a presentation given by Dr Neil Pritchard on Random Numbers.

Thank you also to Mr McKenna in maths.

4ANDREW McCabe of third year has received a very well deserved nomination for a Young Scot Award. Andrew follows in the footsteps of five other Kyle Academy pupils, all of whom received the awards.

Andrew is a very active member of the school community. He is an enthusiastic member of the drama club and the Eco-Council where his leadership skills are very well used by the staff. Andrew has also given presentations to parents and to year group assemblies on a variety of issues.

He has also been working closely with Mr Jarvie, depute head, and ICT technician, Mr Lewis, in learning how to operate the new sound and lighting equipment in the school hall. He works quietly back stage at all school events including the fashion show and formal opening ceremony of the next annexe. Andrew was in charge of sound and lighting at our recent Battle of the Bands Peru Aid event where his creativity came to the fore.

Andrew is an excellent ambassador for the school. Good luck Andrew.

4STAFF and pupils met in the competitive arena of the badminton court this week to take part in the annual competition organised by Mr Ward, Badminton Club organiser.

The staff were victorious, continuing an unbroken run of victories for the staff for the last 20 years! Time to break this tradition next year folks?

Well done to all involved and thanks Mr Ward. It was great fun!
