ON Wednesday, June 25, members of Muirkirk Elderly Forum were picked up by the Coalfield Community Bus on a not too bright morning and travelled to Ardrossan to board the Calmac Ferry for the crossing to Arran.
Arriving at Brodick, they set off to explore the island and within minutes stopped for tea and cakes. Feeling refreshed, the next stop was the charity shop (still in sight of the ferry berth), but finally they headed towards Brodick Castle where they visited the local cheese shop and had free samples and then to the gift shop.
On the way round the island they stopped at the island’s brewery only to find that production had been suspended,. Obviously there were no samples - shame. At the premises there was a small leather and gift shop.
Later at Blackwaterfoot they stopped at the local hotel for a late lunch of cod and chips. Everyone agreed that the meal was very well presented and very tasty.
They then travelled back to Brodick to catch the 4.40pm ferry.
The crossing to Ardrossan was even smoother. They arrived back at Muirkirk at 6.30pm after a good day out and even the weather brightened up after a dismal start, so on the whole everyone enjoyed the visit to the Isle of Arran.
The next trips planned are to Stirling and Aberfoyle.
More about them as soon as they can be organised and it might be that two buses will be required if a lot of members want to go along.
The next meeting of the forum is on Monday, September 8 at 1.15pm in the IFE wing.
