A FORTNIGHT ago there was a serious fire in a house in Lapraik Avenue, fortunately no one was seriously injured.
WOULD organisations who intend to use the IFE wing after the summer please fill in the application forms as soon as possible.
THE SITE at the former Wood-4-U factory has now been totally cleared and a planning application is in at the council for permission to build houses.
Also, last week, drillers were at the former nursery school site in Main Street checking as to whether the ground was suitable for building.
THE ACCESS group has now started to refurbish some of the Glenbuck to Ayr Walk. It is estimated that over 10,000 walkers have at least walked part, if not all, of the paths over the past year.
The Access Group, along with the police and Muirkirk Enterprise Group are arranging a meeting shortly to discuss the problem of quad bikes and motor bikes in Muirkirk that are destroying the walkways.
JEAN Collier presented the prizes at the local school prize-giving. Jean has now retired from the nursery school and we wish her well in her retirement.
IT is good to note that our local MSP Cathy Jamieson is in the running to be the leader of the Scottish Labour Party and I am sure the people of Muirkirk wish her all the best in her campaign.
A NUMBER of hanging baskets have once again disappeared. If anyone has any knowledge as to where they have gone or who took them please inform any members of Muirkirk Enterprise Group or the police at their van on a Wednesday.

1ST Muirkirk Boys’ Brigade Company Section’s new session starts on Friday, August 15, at 7pm in the IFE wing - Boys 11 years to 18 years. Girls 11 years to 18 years. Anchor Boys and Junior Section - Tuesday, August 19, at 6pm in the IFE wing - Boys five years to 11 years.
New members welcome in all the above groups.
Tickets have been obtained for the Scotland v N Ireland football match at Hampden Park on Wednesday, August 20. Names of those interested in attending to be handed in to Derek or Isabel Davidson at 10 Colthart Drive by the end of July, with a £5 deposit.
