MORE than a third of people in Ayrshire ignore changes in their bowel habits.
And experts are warning that they could be putting their health at risk.
A new survey commissioned in time for Gut Awareness Week has revealed that 37 per cent of people would not seek medical attention if they suffered bowel problems, which can be an early indicator of a digestive problem.
A spokesperson for Yakult, who carried out the survey, said: “Such a lack of vigilance may be literally costing lives in Ayrshire. With 100 deaths a year in the region from colorectal cancer alone, it is critical that residents sit up and take notice of symptoms.”
