Holiday arrangements for Dundonald Church

WHILE the Minister of Dundonald Church is on holiday, urgent pastoral care is being provided by Reverend Ron Boyd of Portland Church in Troon, telephone 01292 313285, or contact Session Clerk Gordon Stewart at 01563 850703.

Services for the next two weeks will be taken by Elizabeth Riome, a reader from Minishant. Also, the church will run a holiday club for children from Monday, August 11, to Friday, August 15.

It will take the same form as in previous years with songs, crafts, fun and games and will be completely free for children from primary school.

WITH the Dundonald Games just a month away, there is good news on the pipe band front. There are so many bands that the RSPBA are likely to start the competition before the official noon parade. At the moment there are 10 bands at Grade 4, 10 at grade 3, 9 in Grade 2 and 3 in Grade 1, a total of 32 entries. Amongst these entries there are two bands from Australia and one from Reno, Nevada in the USA.

It promises to be a keen competition and we all look forward to Saturday, August 9.

MACMILLAN Cancer Support at the Games – Andrew and Fiona Douglas are having their usual stall at Dundonald Games on Saturday, August 9. They wish to thank all who have been collecting jars for this. These are now being filled for the occasion!

Donations of books or tombola prizes would be most appreciated.

If you have anything you wish collected please telephone 850388.

THE ARCHIVES Exhibition entitled Pills, Potions and Poisons continues in the Church Hall for the rest of July, daily except Mondays in the afternoon and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Entry is free.

The exhibition describes herbal medicines using plants which flourish in the parish and covers some of the activities of Dundonald witches. There is also a full analysis of the trial of Matthew Hay, local farmer and smuggler, who was hanged in 1780 for poisoning a family in Plewlands Farm.
