SINGING star Jai McDowall is ready to relaunch his career – 12 months after winning Britain’s Got Talent.
The reality show champ will take to the stage later this month and debut his own material.
And he’s pledged to step from the shadows of the ITV show in a bid to become a headline act.
Jai, of Tarbolton, shot to overnight fame when he became the surprise winner of last year’s contest.
But a tough year has followed, including a high profile split from the camp of music mogul Simon Cowell.
Now Jai is determined to prove his doubters wrong and is returning with a bold new style.
He said: “I’ve learned a lot in the last year about how the music industry works.
“It’s definitely a tough place to be and when I won Britain’s Got Talent, I was thrown head first into the deep end.
“But I don’t regret doing the show for one minute, because it’s opened so many doors for me.
“I’m always introduced as the guy who won that show instead of just Jai McDowall.
“But it doesn’t bother me because I’m proud of what I achieved on Britain’s Got Talent and it’s got me to where I am now.”
Jai returns to the stage at Glasgow’s O2 ABC on Wednesday, September 26 for his relaunch gig.
And he’s ready to wow the crowd with a host of pop-style tracks which he admits may take people by surprise.
He laughed: “People seem to think I just open my mouth and sound like a guy from the opera.
“We’ve worked on some new things and I’m going down more of a mainstream pop route this time.
“I’m now with an independent label called When In Rome, and they’ve been great with me.
“We’re just testing the water with this stuff and it will be really interesting to hear the feedback.”
Jai, who was expected to become a big hit after winning BGT, admits the last 12 months have been a reality check.
But he said: “My album didn’t do as well as we’d hoped, but that’s all in the past now.
“The stuff with Simon Cowell was unfortunate but it’s not like I ever fell out with him.
“I’m very positive about the future and the people I’m now working with and can’t wait to get out on the road.”
