BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire held their open pairs competition last weekend.
At the weigh in, first place went to J Carroll (126) and D Inglis with 10 fish for 23lb 5oz, second were Jim Watson (135) and Jim Logan with 10 fish for 20lb 2oz, third were D Strachan (505) and B Bell (505) 10 fish for 19lb 9oz, heaviest fish went to Bill Boe for 4lb 11oz. A total of 75 fish were caught.
Catches: fly pond: The Rev from Irvine four for 9lb 14oz, S Davidson four for 9lb 12oz, Luke Dovaston two for 5lb 6oz, I Nesbit two for 5lb, G Gotch two for 4lb 1oz, J Hall one for 2lb 14oz, C Patterson one for 2lb 4oz, S Murray one for 2lb 8oz, J Barr two for 4lb 10oz, M Barr two for 5lb, B Dickie two for 4lb 8oz, J S Sherriff two for 5lb 8oz, D Nelson two for 5lb 8oz, K Edwards two for 4lb 12oz.

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): T. Wilson eight fish, W. Gibson nine fish, Jim Phillips one rainbow 2lb, all on power bait, Neil McGinn one rainbow 2lb on Montana nymph, Stuart Greenwood one rainbow 2lb 12 oz, W. McIntosh four rainbow, John Alexander three rainbow 6lb on power bait, the man with no name five blues on power bait, on a day ticket Mr Stevenston two rainbow 5lb.
Again some people got a bit excited and just put the number of fish with no name or method or weight.
The second leg of the open competition was held on Saturday with slightly windy but dry conditions.
Winner was Jim Gillespie with a total bag 13lb 10oz on power bait (and some good work from his ghillie), runner-up Stuart Greenwood total bag 10lb 5oz, heaviest fish goes to Kevin Hiddleston 3lb 14oz, John Anderson one rainbow 2 lb on power bait, Jim Phillips one blue 2 lb on power bait, Tom Collins two rainbow 3lb 12oz on power bait and fly.
SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly loch: top catch goes to Josh Williams from Inverness who had two fish for 5lbs 7oz and released another six. Best fly muddler. Helen Park released four on a sunken daddy.
Bait top catch goes to John Allerdyce from Airdrie with four fish for 8lbs. Best bait is worm fished on a float.
Coarse loch: plenty of silvers getting caught. Billy Eastcroft caught a lovely leather carp just under 10lbs, Dave Morris five carp between 8lbs and 10lbs.
On Sunday, September 16, proceeds from every ticket sold on the coarse loch will go to Yorkhill Hospital. Also that day is a sponsored day’s fishing for £ for lbs also for Yorkhill.
BROOMHILL FLY AND COARSE FISHERY (Patna/Rankinston B730): fly pond: Davie Hamilton two kept 5lb 4oz, W. Mitchell one c/r, Jack Bradley one c/r, Jordan Bradley two c/r, Bob Wilson snr one c/r, John Hunter three c/r, John Graham three c/r, Archie Thom seven c/r, Willie McKean three c/r, Dave Duncan seven c/r, Thomas Dittrich, a visitor from Brandenburg in Germany, his first time fishing, caught three lovely trout, Don Wallace five c/r, Rab Dunsmuir five c/r, Danny Szulc seven c/r, Steven Gault three c/r, David Tannoch 10 c/r, Duncan Murphy four c/r, Frank Edgar five c/r, Stevie Grayson six c/r, Harry Barclay three c/r, Dave Campbell three c/r, Dave Dick six c/r, Duncan McKenna two c/r, Olaf two c/r, Sandi one c/r, Alan Murphy one c/r, Bobby Wilson snr two c/r, Bobby Wilson jnr four c/r, Derren Taylor three c/r, one fish caught was a lovely brownie at 2lb 7oz. Best flies: culdays, green/black fritz, blobs and yellow owls.
