A STUDENT is bidding to take her eco message across the world – by winning a top modelling contest.
Stunning Luce Fairhurst has reached the British final of the prestigious Miss Earth competition.
And she could be set to jet across the globe on an environmental mission.
Luce, of Ayr, is aiming to win the top title and fly to some of the world’s most exotic locations.
But she’ll have to prove she has the sense as well as the style at this weekend’s showdown.
The 22-year-old revealed: “The big difference with the Miss Earth competition is the message behind the modelling.
“It’s not all about walking down a catwalk and the judges want to hear your views on the environment.
“We each have to come up with our own message and model it on a t-shirt as part of the show.
“And we’re also interviewed on stage about our environmental thoughts, so it’s a big part of the setup.”
Luce, who is studying fashion marketing at Glasgow Caledonian University, admits her dream is to see the sights.
Now she hopes her first real crack at modelling can help her along the way.
The Ayr student confessed: “It’s not been my childhood dream to be a model or anything like that.
“In fact this is my first real competition and it’s more the fashion side of things I see myself doing.
“But I’m thrilled and excited to be in the final and really want to make a difference with the environmental side of things.
“It’s fundamentally connected to everything we do as humans, especially here in our local towns.
“If we continue to pollute, we won’t be able to transform the places where live and that’s what I’d love to do here in Ayr.”
Luce will go before the judges this Saturday at the British final of Miss Earth in Weston-super-Mare.
