Ayrodynamic Triatholon success

nGRITTY Greg Turner and Leslie McDerment of the Ayrodynamic Triathon Club, took part in the Lakeland Standard Triathlon. The 1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run was Leslie’s first standard event and Greg’s first non drafting standard.

All was going well for Leslie who had a decent swim, strong bike and decent run over a very hilly course to clock 2hrs 40mins 49secs which he was happy with despite a fall on entering T2.

Greg had an excellent swim and was the race leader coming out of the water. Greg and two fellow competitors came of the bike at much the same time, two minutes down on the eventual race winner.

Unfortunately, a race marshall didn’t get to theallocated run turn point in time meaning Greg, who had caught up with leader and several other competitors ended up with a very long run course giving him a finishing time of 2hr 23min30secs.

Organisers decided that since the only true point all participants were at the same point was after the bike, they awarded prizes accordingly. Unfortunately for Greg, he was in fourth at that point.

Meanwhile, super veteran triathlete David Auchie and veteran Sandy Legget were racing in the Aberfeldy Middle Distance Triathlon. First home for the club was Sandy in an impressive 5.00.32. David continued his fine form by finishing the 2k Loch Tay Swim, the challenging cycle and half marathon run in a time of 5.10.37, narrowly missing out on a podium spot.

One of the newest junior members, Matthew Brawley represented the club at the Scottish Youth Championships at Bellahouston. In his first ever triathlon, Matthew came 10th in the competitive 15-16 age group in 40.13 (swim: 5.48, bike: 19.05, run: 13.50.)
