A HISTORIC Ayr building has been left a shell after a 12 hour inferno.
And the blaze is rumoured to have caused s1 million of damage.
The fire took hold of the old Templeton House care home on Racecourse at around 7pm on Wednesday, July 25.
Fire crews from Ayr, Troon, Maybole and Dreghorn fought to contain the inferno using two special high reach appliances, five fire engines and 35 firefighters.
But the blaze was only officially put out at 7am on Thursday morning. Part of the building collapsed and South Ayrshire Council officers are now evaluating the extent of the damage.
Police closed nearby roads while the fire raged but none of the surrounding properties had to be evacuated. However they were put on warning due to the clouds of smoke streaming off the fire.
Two teenage boys have been arrested and charged with causing the fire. The 18-year-old from Kilmarnock and the 16-year-old from Ayr will appear at court at a later date.
