Lout’s mum dies days after being chucked out family home by him

THE LONG suffering mum of a lout died just days after he threw her out her own home.

James McGarrie went to his mum’s funeral handcuffed to prison guards.

He was on remand for a string of drunken tantrums at his elderly parents’ home.

And the latest stramash came the day after he was released on bail for assaulting his dad and chucking out his mum.

At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, McGarrie appeared in the dock from custody.

Depute fiscal Jim Kelman explained: “There have been a number of previous incidents relating to disorder at the family home, towards his parents.”

On November 13, he had been boozing up and arguing with his parents. He became abusive, shouting and swearing at the elderly couple.

Violent McGarrie then attacked his father by punching him several times. The man desperately tried to calm his son down, but he was overpowered and thrown out the house.

McGarrie then turned his attention to his mum, ushering the disabled woman – who had just undergone surgery on her legs – to the front door and leaving her on the front path before locking them both out.

McGarrie was arrested at the scene in Mauchline’s Sunnyside Crescent.

He was released on bail the next day and ordered to keep away from his parents.

But the very next day, November 15, the 31-year-old yob was back at their door upsetting them.

Police were swiftly called and McGarrie was remanded in custody.

Defence lawyer Peter Lockhart explained this week that McGarrie’s mum has died since the most recent incident.

Mr Lockhart said: “He has a love hate relationship with his parents.

“The fact is his behaviour would not have helped his mother’s condition. He will have to bear that guilt for the rest of his days. There may be a link between his behaviour and her untimely death.”

Mr Lockhart went on to say that Mr McGarrie senior – who will spend Christmas without his wife or son – had been in touch and was prepared to take the yob back.

But Sheriff John Montgomery was less than pleased.

He jailed McGarrie for 10 months and told him: “You have been totally out of control. You were made the subject of two community payback orders which you simply ignored.

“You’re behaviour towards your parents is quite appalling – you’re a disgrace.”
