NOTHING excites cinema goers more than a superhero flick. And this week Ryan Reynolds is the latest star to don Lycra in The Green Lantern (PG).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries – The Green Lantern Corps.

A brotherhood of warriors, they are sworn to keep intergalactic order and are recognisable by the green ring each soldier wears that gives him superpowers.

But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit – the first human ever selected, Hal Jordan, played by Reynolds, right.

With the encouragement of childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, (Blake Lively) this new recruit has the ability to become the greatest Green Lantern of all time.

The film is worth a look for Reynolds’ well-toned body in the painted-on suit alone. If comedy is what you fancy this week, Bad Teacher (12A) starring Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, could be to your liking. Diaz is Elizabeth, a foul-mouthed, inappropriate teacher who couldn’t care less about her pupils.

She drinks, she gets high, and can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job.

But her life takes a strange turn when she is dumped by her fiance so she sets herself homework to win over handsome substitute teacher played by Timberlake.

However, her scheming ends up teaching this bad teacher a lesson with hilarious results.

More comedy in Jumping The Broom (12A). A collision of worlds occurs when two African-American families from divergent backgrounds get together in Martha’s Vineyard for a wedding. The film stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso and Loretta Devine. Other films worth trying to see, include Kung Fu Panda 2 (U), X MEN: First Class (12A) and Honey 2 (12A).
