Sarah doing more than her bit for war heroes.

SHE’S the dedicated soldier’s wife who runs a support group for fellow forces families.

But if that wasn’t enough, mum-of-two Sarah Hunter has just added another string to her bow.

The 30-year-old Patna woman is now a co-ordinator for military charity Help for Heroes.

Sarah said: “I wanted to give something back to a charity that helps so many people.

“My husband Craig is a TA soldier and has served in Afghanistan and I have a lot of friends who are connected to the forces.

“I wanted to give a piece of my heart to help the men and women who are injured in the line of duty.

“And not just the people I know, but for everyone. Every story touches you, the army really is like a big family.

“I’ve had emotional support from people in the past and I know just how important it is.”

Sarah’s first job as a co-ordinator was to go along to a psychic night held in the West Kirk in Ayr.

The event, organised by Kylie Murphy, was a huge success and raised more than £700.

Psychics John Seery, Mary Grossart and Susan Weisener drew in such a crowd that the event was a sell-out.

And Sarah was there to offer a helping hand and sell Help For Heroes merchandise along with fellow Ayrshire co-ordinator Laura McCrorie.

The women are both new to their voluntary roles and have a lot of new ideas to keep the cash rolling in.

Sarah continued: “Our job is to help people organise events, get them banners and information and go along on the night to be the face of the charity and take some merchandise.

“That gives us an opportunity to thank people for working so hard for the charity.”

Sarah’s Forces Families Support Group meets on the last Wednesday of the month in the TA centre in Chalmers Road.

It provides folk the chance to catch up and have a coffee with people in a similar position.

Sarah is in the process of organising a psychic night and race night for the group.

And plans are already underway for the kids’ Christmas party and a trip to a pantomime and Edinburgh Christmas market.

Eventually, Sarah is hoping to open a garden for families of personnel can go to relax and take time out.
