A PRIMARY school teacher is in jail amid allegations of child sex grooming over the internet.
Stuart Scott, 25, faces a total of six charges of a sexual nature involving children.
Web cameras are also involved in the allegations of lewd and libidinous behaviour.
The Catrine man, who is a teacher at a primary school in the East Ayrshire area, was arrested last Thursday.
He appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Friday morning and was remanded in custody.
A number of children are named as victims in the charges, although at this stage none are his school pupils.
The Post has been asked by prosecutors not to name the school he teaches at.
Scott, of Gordon Street, Catrine, is also heavily involved with coaching children’s football teams, including a girls’ team.
The community has been left stunned at the news.
Former Auchinleck Academy pupil Scott was brought up in the Ayrshire countryside in an area known as the ‘five mile cut’, between Ochiltree and Mauchline.
He studied primary teaching at the University of Paisley and graduated from the Craigie campus in 2007.
Scott completed his probationary year at the same school where he was suspended last week.
He was offered permanent supply work in 2010 before landing a full-time permanent post later in the year.
East Ayrshire Council has confirmed that Scott has been suspended.
Andrew Sutherland, head of schools, said: “We are aware that serious criminal charges in respect of sexual offences against certain young people have been brought against this individual.
“We have been – and will continue to be – involved as we give the police our full support in respect of their investigations into this matter.
“In the meantime, we have taken the precautionary action of suspending the individual concerned.”
Scott made no plea or declaration when he appeared in court. He will be back before a sheriff later this week.
