South Ayrshire Council evicts problem tenants

BREAK the rules and we’ll evict you.

That’s the hardline message from South Ayrshire Council to its tenants.

Two more residents have been forced to leave their homes after a sheriff granted eviction orders following anti-social behaviour.

A 26-year-old man and 48-year-old woman have now lost tenancy of their respective homes.

And the council’s housing spokesman, Douglas Campbell, says more will follow if residents step out of line.

He said: “For residents who simply want to enjoy peace and quiet at home, anti-social behaviour can really disrupt their lives.

“We take anti-social behaviour seriously and, as these recent evictions show, we will continue to take action up to including eviction for persistent bad behaviour.

“The council works very closely with police to ensure a flow of information on anti-social matters.

“Above all, people have to realise that we as a council can act – and we do act.”

The latest evictees had been issued with anti-social behaviour orders before their eventual evictions.

One of the tenants had been involved in fighting with knives and the other was drunk, causing fights and playing loud music day and night.

In both cases, the problems continued over a long period of time and the police had to attend at the two separate properties on a number of occasions.

Both tenants breached their ASBO’s, which led to them being imprisoned by the court and the sheriff granting eviction orders.

Councillor Campbell added: “The council does take anti-social behaviour very seriously and we dedicate a significant amount of staff time to dealing with this problem.”
