Prestwick hairdresser named one of Britain’s best stylists

AN Ayrshire hairdresser has been named one of Britain’s top stylists – after entering her first competition.

Lisa Gerrard was listed in the top 20 of a nationwide contest to find the country’s best stylists.

Stunned Lisa, who works for KZ Hair in Prestwick, made the elite of the London-based Goldwell Colour Zoom competition, and was named in the top 20 of her category – creative stylist – which saw entries coming from far and wide.

She said: “I was delighted to get the recognition for my work, especially as this is the first major competition I have entered.

“The competition also attracted a record number of entries, so it was great to do so well in it.

“I had to cut and colour my model’s hair and then we were given a trend and told to put our own interpretation on it.

“After doing a photo shoot, the photo was sent to London to be judged by high profile colourists, members of trade and consumer press.”

Lisa’s efforts propelled her into the top entries, with the winner going on to represent the UK on the international stage. And although Lisa didn’t take first prize, she insists that making the shortlist was more than enough recognition.

Lisa, 33, said: “It feels great. I started hairdressing when I was 16 and, after three years’ training, I’ve been a stylist for 14 years.

“I’ve worked in Kilmarnock and Glasgow but have now been in Prestwick for four years and specialise in all aspects of cuts/colours/styling and bridal hair.

“I’m just thrilled that my work could get this recognition and it feels like a great achievement.”
