More success for Ayrshire golfers

HOLDER Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) leads the Ayrshire Junior Order of Merit after four of the 18 counting events.

McDonald took maximum points at the West Kilbride Boys' Open, ahead of Welbeck trio Charlie Macneal, Marc Smith and Graham Ritchie.

Smith retains second spot with his third place at West Kilbride and a similar position in the Annanhill Boys' Open, while clubmates Macneal and David Wilson moved up to third and fourth respectively, Wilson having taken maximum points in the Annanhill Open.

LOUDOUN pair Audrey Thomson and Liz Kehone took the top honours in the Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association Summer Meeting at East Kilbride.

From an entry of 47, Audrey won the scratch section with 81, playing off four.

Liz took the net prize with 67, off six. Second was Maggie Magee (Kilmarnock Barassie) on (21) 71 who pipped Julie Mackie (The Ladies Golf Club) off 18, on the better inward half.

CSS for the competition was 74 (+ 1)

HOLDER Tommy McInally (Loudoun) is through the semi-finals of the Ayrshire champion of champions competition.

Despite a run of away ties, McInally negotiated his way into the last four with his latest win against Gordon McKelvie (Royal Troon).

McKelvie, who was bidding for a last four place at Royal Troon on August 6, pushed McInally all the way but the defending champion edged out his host by one hole.

The remaining three quarter-finals are due to be completed by July 26.

Ties are: Craig Robertson (Abbotsford) v Scott McCahill (Maybole); Lee Jenkins (Beith) v Jamie Mackay (Kilmarnock Barassie); Steven McEwan (Caprington) v Kevin Brock (St Nicholas).

BARASSIE'S Alastair Brown and Roger Thyne are the first pair through to the semi-finals of the Ayrshire Fourball Championship.

They booked their place with a 6&5 win at home to Andrew Stewart and Martin Scott (Ravenspark). The three remaining quarter-finals are due to be completed by August 8.

PATRICK TIMMONS (St Meddans) is the second player through to the semi-finals of the Ayrshire Junior Champion of Champions.

He edged past Ciar Porciani (Ayr Belleisle) at the first extra hole at St Meddans.

With Craig Telfer (St Cuthbert) already through, the remaining two quarter-finals are due to be completed by August 1.

LOCAL sides continue to perform well in Divisions One and Two of the West of Scotland Ladies Inter Club Leagues for The Greenlees Trophy.

Troon improved their position with a 7-2 home win over West Kilbride in Division One while Prestwick St Nicholas bounced back from a 7-2 defeat at Hilton Park to crush Erskine 9-0 at home.

Division One is led by Milngavie on 24.5 points with Kilmarnock (Barassie) joint second on 20. West Kilbride are in fourth place on 19 while Troon Ladies lie fifth in the league of nine teams with 14.

In Division Two, Prestwick St Nicholas are fifth of the nine teams with 18.5 points.

Matches in each league continue throughout the summer.
