Henry took education to the great outdoors
A MAN who took education to the great outdoors has retired.
And friends and colleagues paid tribute to Henry Anderson.
Modest Henry threw a party in Maybole Town Hall to thank others for their support.
But the tables were turned on an inspirational man.
Belfast-born Henry started his teaching career in Liverpool.
And he came to Ayrshire to work at the former Glaisnock outdoor centre, near Cumnock.
Henry later became geography teacher at Carrick Academy.
And he spearheaded outdoor activities like orienteering.
Henry also led a range of expeditions, including ones to Kilimanjaro.
South Ayrshire Council asked him to develop Dolphin House as an outdoor centre at Culzean.
And hundreds of children have benefited from the excellent facility.
Henry and wife Barbara have lived near Straiton for 25 years.
Barbara is a former head teacher at Straiton Primary and Cairn Primary.
