Culzean Castle and Country Park scoops sixth award

lSTAFF at Culzean Country Park, run by the National Trust for Scotland, have just received a prestigious award in recognition of 25 years of successful education work.

It was presented to Culzean ranger Katie Walker by Prince Edward at Windsor Castle.

Last July staff and volunteers fond out that they would receive the Sandford Award for Heritage Education for a sixth time.

Culzean won its first award in 1984 and has consistently been deemed deserving of an award every five years since.

In the last five years Culzean’s education staff have introduced new programmes on Victorian life ‘Schoolroom to Scullery’; World War II; pollution indicators; conservation for biodiversity; growing plants; heritage conservation; and have also revised the existing programmes in light of the new Curriculum for Excellence.

Culzean’s property manager Paul Pomfret said: “To achieve one Sandford Award is cause for celebration in itself, but to achieve six consecutive awards over 25 years shows the long term commitment we have placed on education as a property. These decades of success are a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”
