South Ayrshire roads likely to stay pot-holed

ROADS in South Ayrshire are likely to remain pot-holed in places, council leader Bill McIntosh admits.

For a £54,000 spend on maintenance simply won’t look at damage estimated at £300,000 from January’s snow and ice.

But the council will spend £50,000 on a speed limit review of all rural roads, in line with new national and local policies.

Main capital roads scheme is £380,000 set aside to reconstruct the carriageway and pavements in Ayr’s Whitletts Road.

A toal of £696,000 is earmarked to upgrade street lighting in Ayr (Fort area), Troon (Muirhead), Prestwick (East Road) and Maybole (Kildoon Drive, Kincraig Avenue, Queen’s Terrace).

Dredging Girvan harbour – the only harbour the council actually owns – will be carried out at an estimated £110,000, from the roads budget.
