Road chaos fears in Mauchline

START talking to villagers – to minimise chaos, Cathy Jamieson is telling road agencies.

The MSP fears major disruption in Mauchline if people aren’t fully consulted.

And she says Transport Scotland and Amey should spell out the impact of the planned resurfacing of the A76 through the village.

Ms Jamieson met representatives of the roads agencies along with Councillor David Shaw, to hear more about the timetable.

Speaking later, she said: "Everyone knows the resurfacing work is badly needed.

“It was postponed from last year, to avoid causing problems for major Burns events in Mauchline. “Work is due to commence at the start of the school summer holidays and will run for a number of weeks.”

The MSP added: “People living on the main road through Mauchline will have restricted access to their driveways at certain times, and there will be one weekend when Mauchline Cross is completely closed off to allow major work to be completed.

“The scale of the works means that there will be inconvenience for local residents, but that can be minimised if people are fully aware of what to expect and make plans to deal with it.

“I have asked Amey and Transport Scotland to start talking to people now, rather than wait until the work is imminent.

“They have assured me that they will notify businesses and residents of the details, and publicise the plans in the local press."

The MSP is also calling for Transport Scotland to install a crossing on the A76, near the Burns Memorial Homes in Mauchline, following repeated requests from local residents.
