Kilmarnock Tesco thief told to get off drugs

A TESCO worker who robbed from the company she was employed by has avoided a jail sentence.

Instead, drug addict Lynne McClung was ordered to deal with her problems.

Sheriff Colin Miller took pity on the 27-year-old and ordered her to undergo a drug testing and treatment order.

McClung worked for the Kilmarnock branch of Tesco when she stole £47 worth of goods from the store in Ayr.

She earlier pleaded guilty to theft by shoplifting when she appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court.

A depute fiscal told the court that among the items stolen were magazines, ice-cream, lucozade, pate and DVDs.

McClung already has six previous convictions including offences under the misuse of drugs act and road traffic act.

Defence lawyer Peter Lockhart told the court that although she did have money problems, she couldn’t offer any explanation for her behaviour.

The Ayr woman was sent away while social workers prepared background reports on her.

This week McClung appeared back in court to learn her fate.

Mr Lockhart said: ”A number of items were paid for and a number were not.”

McClung, of Peggieshill Road, will be back in court for her first review on February 25.
